Surreal Practice Tutorial

The different things we did to the Desert tutorial to make it look realistic was making the ground look up close to farther. The other thing we did to make this Tutorial look realistic was dropping the shadow on the light post. And I think the clouds look realistic but we did really work on that. (:

Art Show "School Meltdown"

I choose this picture to be in the Cesar Chavez Art Show this year because I feel that many student's can compare a point in their live's going to school and having a meltdown towards a class assigment. "School Meltdown"('s) is that day that you just dont feel like doing your work because of an issue at home or just for being lazy.

I had the idea that my quilt squares would feel real and alive, I feel that the ideas I had for this project weren’t well presented the way I wanted them to be. However I like how they come out too look and I feel they are good enough to send the massage I wanted to send out. I am not content with my first quilt square because I feel that there is no connection. My favorite quilt square is the future; I feel it gives off the exactly meaning I was trying to give. My least favorite it the outside me, I feel I could of done better. I struggled the most with trying to put my ideas into something I’d like; I overcome my struggles by letting myself feel comfortable about how others and I see myself on the inside and out.

I could compare my past and my future because they are similar in a way getting over the past in a struggle as to the future I’m struggling to get into the future but also they share the difference of getting caught in the mix of the aspiration. The feeling I expressing in my inside and outside squares are different in a way of misleading paths, how people see me is not who I am inside. I feel that the outside and the inside of my personality are two complete strangers. I wasn’t really surprised of what others said of me because I know that I hide my genuineness sensations and that the kind of person I am because of my past.

The main symbols I used throughout my work are plants (including sun) but the strongest were the trees and my wings. I use these symbols to express the beauty of life and the beauty of the inner me but many of the symbols can be obscure to the untrained eye of mind.

I could say I was moderately honest with my expression in each of my quilt squares; it was very difficult for me to express myself visually because I didn’t really have a real image in my head of how I wanted each of my quilt squares to come out.

Visually what I like about my quilt squares is the mysterious overview of it all. I think the strongest part of my quilts is the trees.

One of the newest tools I used using Photoshop was the Fill. I think I got better at was blending and learning how to put together different pictures. My favorite trick to use throughout my squares was the blending tool.

Overall my experience throughout this project was to express yourself from the inner side of you. If I could change anything while doing this project would do my quilts more simpler, but I would keep the ideas the same.

Artist Statement

Overviews of what you’ll find in the portfolio are social issue, scary effects, photographic effects, portraits, contact sheet, and 8 compositional tricks. I feel my portfolio started off as a disaster and till now I am currently getting better. The things that I’ve learned over the course of first semester with Photoshop are how to blend pictures together and how to make my own paintbrush out of a picture. I’ve also learned how to take fantastic pictures and turning an everyday seen thing and making it unnoticeable and to one really think about it. I feel I’m most successful with the effects on Photoshop because I put myself into all my work. The things that I’ve learned over the course of first semester in Photoshop are unforgettable and unimaginable. The things that I’ve learned have helped me see photography in a whole new shape of manner that I’ve never would have thought of seeing it in this form of style, this feeling is beyond words.

I chose these lyrics because I love the words used in the song and how they are put together. I chose Chris Brown's lyrics because its a very sweet song and it was also dedicated to me from my first boyfriend before we went out. I also chose the lyrics from Mariah Carey because her lyrics makes sences and I feel like this song was ment for me and many other people that never felt love.

Social issue: "You destroy what you think is beauty"

Nearly all people have an issue with style. Money, Weight and the Expectations that lay on style causes many people to go through stress.

The majority of people stress out over the way they look, their style. An additional of people gain weight because, they eat when they are pressured by their closest “friends and families.” Many people judge a book by its cover, which smears on several of people. Critiquing one for their looks is not the best way to judge a person.

Scary Effects

Alien

Vampire

My favorite Scary Effect was the Alien because I understood how to photoshop it.

A new tool I learned how to use was the lighting effects, it was simple and easy to use.

(just pulling the adjustestment point to make it darker or lighter)

The pen tool was one of the difficulties i ran into.

I think I did the Alien picture the best.

I think I could use the skills I learned for a magazine photo, the picture could make the magazine interesting for people to read.

Critique: Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison

Walking towards a mysterious place, you could see the back of a mans head. This man carry's water in enormous quantity of bags, to an unsolved flame. The blaze is ahead of him give's a beautiful feeling of power and courage of him. The fire blur creates simplicity that captures the attention to the impenetrable man. The misty in this picture sets a mood to an open entrance in which you yet can't distinguish into. I'm assuming the man desires to prohibit the conflagration.

Photographic Effects

Portraits

1.The one portrait I thought I was most sucessful with was the Artistic because I understood the idea of the mood and I knew what i wanted with it.

2.The Artistic Portrait was my favorite, I used lighting, and I capture a depressing mood.

3.The Costume Protrait was the most difficult for me, I used a kind of romanic but with her intention on not wanting to be what everyone wants her to be. A more like I want to run away far.

4.I think my Surprise Portrait was unique because its macro, and macro takes you to a view that no one see's as offent as useual.

5.I wish I had more time to work on this project. This project was very interesting to me, its just that I wasn't so prepared for it and didn't work as hard as wanted I to.

Contact Sheet

Out of all of the Compositional Trick I liked the Macro, becuase its a cool way of looking a things up close.
I think I would use Rule of Thrids in my day to day photographs because to me it makes to photo more interesting, rather than a simple photo with the main idea in the middle.
The most difficult and my least favorite was Leading Lines because I didnt really understand the point.
My favorite picture that I took was Macro, because the picture gives me a locked feeling, as if no one can hurt or trespass me.

Compositional Trick #8 Fill in Flash

Fill in flash effects the way shadows hit one, and makes them shadows fade away.

I would use fill in flash to make one pop out more, I would use it when there are shadows.

Compositional Trick #7 Drawing with light

Light makes things stand out more.

The feeling I get when i look at my picture is a cold vs a warmer feeling. The light makes it look cold and the shadows make it look warm.

Compositional Trick #6 Framing

Framing helps composition by setting your eye to a main purpose.

I used to tree's and it help set an eye to the main idea, but i didnt have a main purpose.

Compositional Trick #5 Extreme Angles

Extreme Angles is a good compositional trick because it allows you to see things in others point of view.

I think the pencile is a great example of Extreme Angle in small views. I dislike the top picture.

Compositional Trick #4 Simplicity

Simplicity helps strengthen the main idea of the picture.

In my oppion i think simplicity is boring because your only looking at one thing.

I used simplicity using the sky as a simple as possiable.

Compositional Trick #3 Macro

Macro gives you a larger image of small things, like a Microscope.

I think it's good to know about this so that people can see the small things in a beautiful way.

Compositional Trick #2 Leading Lines

Leading Lines are lines leads you to the meaning of the picture.

I'm not so sure on how to use Leading Lines! But if i knew how to use it properly, I think I would use it to make my pictures more interesting.

Compositional Trick #1 Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds is the main interest anywhere beside the center.

I would use The Rule of Thirds to make my picture look more interesting and to draw attention anywhere besides the midpoint.
